Do You Need a Panel or Service Upgrade?

An assessment may be appropriate if:

  • The panel is full and has no room for additional circuits
  • The home still has a fuse panel
  • Breakers trip frequently or lights dim when major equipment starts
  • The panel is damaged, corroded or unusually warm
  • You are planning an EV charger, hot tub, addition or major renovation
  • The existing service cannot support the calculated electrical load
  • An insurer or electrical inspection has raised concerns

Not every home automatically needs a 200A service. CLI Electric will assess the actual load and explain whether a panel replacement, subpanel, load-management solution or full service upgrade is appropriate.

Panel & Service Upgrade FAQs

Does every home need a 200A service?

No. The correct service size depends on the calculated electrical load and planned equipment. We assess the existing system before recommending an upgrade.

Can the panel be replaced without upgrading the service?

In some cases, yes. A panel replacement and a full service upgrade are different scopes of work. The existing service and project requirements must be assessed first.

Will the power need to be shut off?

Yes, panel and service work normally requires a scheduled interruption. We will explain the anticipated timing and coordination requirements before work begins.

Who coordinates with the electrical utility?

CLI Electric will explain and coordinate the required electrical work. Utility procedures, scheduling and charges vary by project and service territory.

Are ESA and utility fees included?

The written estimate will state which fees are included. Utility charges or additional requirements that cannot be confirmed before the utility review will be identified separately.

Can my existing service support an EV charger?

Possibly. We will review the panel capacity, available breaker space, charger output and calculated load before recommending a solution.
